So today Belle and I watched together as Obama took office. He was talking for a little while about how our ancestors worked hard to get this nation to become what it is for us today...working until their hands were raw in the fields.
Belle looked at me, serious as could be, and said this is bad news mom. "What?" I asked her. He said they all have raw hands, and that's bad!
I tried to explain what was going on, told her that we have a new president today, and how the one before him was a bad man. She asked if the new one was good, and I said I hope so.
A little while later, we ordered pizza, and the girl came in while I signed her paper, and Belle says "Today we have a new prisoner because the old one was a bad man. We hope the new one is good"
I told Ron Oskam (who was here painting), that she's sort of half right...maybe our old president should be a prisoner :-)

Julie and cookbooks
So lately, Juliana has been enjoying looking through cookbooks with me. Since she was diagnosed with an egg allergy recently, it's been hard finding recipes that don't have any eggs in them. So, I taught her to say "darn it" and tap on the cookbook.
Now, she'll point to a recipe and if there's eggs, I'll say, "Oh, but that has eggs in it" to which she replies "Oh Darn It!" and bangs her hand down on the cookbook page. Too cute!
